- What to Wear: Weather here is way more bearable compared to the northern Italian regions. We could wear skirts, shorts, sleeveless tops, and cotton shirts. But we still armed ourselves with jackets and scarves for the cold evenings.
For the final leg of our Italy trip, we decided to explore Naples and use it as a base for when we explore the stunning Amalfi Coast.
Part 1: Naples
Naples is considered one of the most Catholic cities in the world in terms of number of places of worship. Most of our day then included visiting beautiful, but sadly empty churches, and exploring its narrow streets along the way.
Naples is also the birthplace of pizza. We made it a mission to taste authentic Neapolitan pizza and discovered Da Michele. Known as one of the oldest and best pizzerias in Naples, Da Michelle only offers two flavors, marinara and margherita. These large pizzas come with a low price tag of 6 to 8 Euros, so (no-brainer) we had both flavors. Despite its small menu and tiny space, it boasts a Michelin plate and an impressive following. Queuing can get tiring so do not judge yourselves if you end up buying suppli or similar appetizers from nearby restaurants.
Part 2: Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and mild winters making it a popular tourist destination. Out of its 13 municipalities, we had the chance to visit three – Amalfi, Positano and Ravello.
From Naples, we stopped over Sorrento, the gateway to the Amalfi Coast. The charming centre features loads of small antique shops and cafes where we grabbed breakfast.
Our next stop was Positano, a small picturesque town with candy-colored buildings spread between the cliffs.
After stopping for lunch, we headed to Amalfi, the heart of this Italian coastline. It used to be a favorite holiday destination for the rich and famous. Get a gelato or a limoncello while admiring its coastal scenery and dramatic cliffs.
Our final stop, Ravello was a revelation. You need to drive higher into the cliffs to find this hidden gem with only over 2,000 inhabitants. It is green, calm, inviting and could be a perfect place for a retreat!
As much as we wanted to stay, we had to drive back to Naples to prepare for our next flight. The more we discover Italy, the more we feel that we haven’t seen it. We’ll never get tired of you, Italia. Ciao bella (for now!).
