First Stop: Siena

Siena is a medieval city most popular for the Palio, a traditional horse race run around the Piazza del Campo held twice a year. The Sienese take this event rather seriously. Each of them belongs to a Contrada. It’s like their tribe complete with flags, colors, and emblems. All the 17 Contrade compete in this passionate horse race and participate in the intense preparations that come with it.

Lunch Stop: Chianti

The Chianti region is more than just a source of glorious wines; it is also gentle green hills, picturesque landscapes, fresh pasta, and scrumptious wood-fired pizza!

Third Stop: San Gimignano

Set on a hilltop, it is easy to spot San Gimignano and understand why it’s called the Town of Fine Towers. This surprisingly still intact medieval town is home to well-preserved architecture and some of the world’s yummiest gelato.

Final Stop: The Cathedral Square of Pisa

The three religious structures inside this Catholic Church-owned piazza symbolize the main stages of life. The Baptistery represents birth, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta life and the Camposanto death. The Leaning Tower of Pisa, known all over the world for its tilt to one side due to the weak nature of the ground below it, is actually a bell tower or the Campanile for the Cathedral.

Even if you’re on a tour or driving, prepare to walk a lot if you intend to cover all these sites in one day. Have fun discovering all these Tuscan treasures!
