Montserrat, a multi-peaked mountain range, is definitely worth a visit not just for its striking rock formations, but also for its religious and cultural value.
To reach Montserrat, we rode a coach from Barcelona, reached the foot of the mountain then continued aboard a cogwheel train to arrive at its peak.

Montserrat is home to Santa Maria de Montserrat, an abbey considered one of Spain’s key religious sites.

This is an important Catholic pilgrimage spot because of the Black Madonna, Catalonia’s patron saint. We were lucky to catch L’Escolania choir, a boys choir of altos and sopranos while visiting the church.

While here, you can explore various trails. A light one we discovered led to this scenic part that gives you sweeping views of the monastery, the mountains and the city.

It was a short visit, but was definitely much needed as it gave us some time to breathe again and be grateful. From this mountain, seeing the city below and the heavens above made us feel how tiny we are and how much more of our world is waiting to be discovered.
